Men’s B1 Divisision playoff matchups set

CALGARY, ALTA. — The six-team field in the Men’s B1 Division didn’t disappoint in an action-packed round-robin that featured a record five ties, in addition to only two teams actually finding the win column.

The favourites heading into the playoff round come from Saskatoon as Garden Variety was the only team to navigate through the round robin without a blemish, en route to a 3-0 record. They’ll head into the playoff round with a bye through the semi-finals, awaiting the winner of an all-Regina quarter-final matchup between the BBK Blacklist and Brewsters Hammerheads.

The defending B1 National Champions, the HPL Beavers, finally found some offense in their round-robin finale, which was enough to give them the second-place seed and another valuable bye through to the semi-final round. They’ll await the winner of the Bucks and Flyers matchup as those two Vancouver teams vie to move on.

QUICK FACTS

  • Only two of the six teams in the round robin managed to find the win column as the parity was clear in this division
  • The third tie-breaker, goal differential, was what locked up the third-seed for the Bucks, as they were a -1 in the category
  • For the Blacklist, Hammerheads, and Flyers, the fourth tie-breaker was required as all three teams had a -3 goal differential. What broke the tied? Least goals against, where things were still quite even as the teams checked in at 10, 11, and 12, respectively
  • The fifth tie-breaker would have been least penalty minutes. If there was still a tie? A coin flip would have decided the seeding
